Past the Sunset

The days of the Azhwars are considered, according to scholars of our tradition, the daytime. This is because the day is filled with life-sustaining warmth and light emanating from the Sun. Vakulabhooshana Bhaskarar (Swami Nammazhwar) and Kavimloka Divakaram (Tirumangai Azhwar) are the suns of our sampradayam. These twin suns filled the world with the light of knowledge and practice. Upon their departure from this material realm (lila vibhuti), the world was suspended in darkness. The darkness engulfed all our traditions and philosophy. Ignorance, lack of Dharma and a complete deviation from the Vedic way of life began to set in. Then, by the grace of the Lord and his Divine Will, the incarnation of our Divine Lineage of Preceptors began. This is akin to the onset of the moon at a time of darkness. The light emanating from the moon is cool as shade and is one in which everyone naturally revels in. People never shield their eyes from the light of the moon or attempt to find shade. Much like that, the lives of our preceptors only bring joy to those who take refuge in them.

The foremost of our preceptors is Swami Nathamunigal. His annual birth asterism falls on Ani-Anusham. This year it happens to fall on the 9th of July.

The following is the list of events planned for the ten-day celebrations occurring at ViraNarayana Chaturvedi Mangalam, Kattu Mannar Kovil - the place of birth of the Acharya.
